PLAYER NOTES

--OT Stephon Heyer (shoulder) didn't practice on Wednesday and according to coach Jim Zorn, won't start if he can't practice on Thursday.
--FB Mike Sellers (thigh) didn't practice on Wednesday.
--WR Malcolm Kelly (ankle), who has yet to make his NFL debut, only did individual drills on Wednesday.
--CB Fred Smoot (hip) was limited on Wednesday but is expected to play.
GAME PLAN: Having been unable to run on the Cowboys' 3-4 defense in recent years, the Redskins will try to use coach Jim Zorn's West Coast passing game like a running attack, moving the chains with short passes from QB Jason Campbell to WRs Santana Moss and Antwaan Randle El and TE Chris Cooley. The Redskins started well and finished well against New Orleans and Arizona but went through lulls in the middle quarter. They need to be sharp all the way through to have a chance of beating the Cowboys in Dallas.
The Redskins acquired DE Jason Taylor in July to bolster their pass rush, especially against their NFC East rivals. But Taylor was coming off a sprained knee against the Giants and now won't face the Cowboys after undergoing emergency calf surgery. Replacement Demetric Evans is a better run-stopper, which should be help against burly back Marion Barber, but if Tony Romo has time to throw, he could pick apart the Redskins the way he did in last year's game at Texas Stadium. Does coordinator Greg Blache blitz or trust his DBs in coverage?
MATCHUPS TO WATCH: Redskins CB Shawn Springs vs. Cowboys WR Terrell Owens -- These two have been going at it since they both played on the West Coast 11 years ago. Owens scored his infamous "Sharpie" touchdown on Springs in 2002 and victimized his offseason workout pal for a couple of his four TDs in last year's game in Dallas. That said, Springs has often kept superstar Owens under control with his smarts, strength and speed.
Redskins WR Santana Moss vs. Cowboys CB Terence Newman: The shifty and swift Moss has TDs in six straight games dating to last December. He scored the game-winner the last two weeks. No one in Dallas has forgotten his pair of long TDs that stunned the Cowboys in the final minutes in 2005. Newman, who went to his first Pro Bowl in 2007, ended Washington's last chance in Dallas last year with a late INT.
INJURY IMPACT: Veteran backup DE Demetric Evans will make his first start of 2008 and just his second since 2005 on Sunday. If ROT Jon Jansen fills in for Stephon Heyer, it would be the 10-year veteran's first start since his 2007 season ended with a broken leg and dislocated ankle.
