--Defensive end Renaldo Wynn officially returned to the Redskins on March 24, more than a week after he agreed to terms with the team that cut him at the end of training camp in 2007 following five seasons in Washington, the first four as a starter.
While Wynn, who'll be 35 in September, was a backup the past three years for Washington, New Orleans (2007) and the New York Giants (2008), he gives the Redskins a veteran presence at a position where they had lost Demetric Evans as a free agent and cut Phillip Daniels to save cap room and Jason Taylor in a dispute over his commitment to the organization.
Before Wynn's return, the Redskins' ends other than Andre Carter -- who replaced him in the lineup in 2006 -- were Chris Wilson, Rob Jackson and Alex Buzbee, none of whom has ever started an NFL game.
Wynn follows fellow 2003-04 starters cornerback Fred Smoot (2007) and guard Derrick Dockery (Feb. 27) in returning to the Redskins.
--Wynn began working out at Redskin Park on March 25, nine days after his teammates.
"This is when you start winning games, right here," Smoot said. "This is when teams come together. Last year could've been our year if we could've just got things together. What we did last year was dig deep for the teams that people said we couldn't beat and let the teams that we thought we could beat, beat us. We didn't finish the year well. We didn't finish a lot of games well. Finishing will be one our main motivations."
