Washington Redskins Inside Slant 2008-10-03
The Redskins are saying all the right things about not being cocky following their surprising victory last Sunday in Dallas.

"I wouldn't think that we've accomplished any goals yet because all of our goals are ahead of us," coach Jim Zorn said. "The only goal we've attained is we've won more games than we've lost."

That's not exactly the case after three straight victories over NFC contenders that followed their listless opening loss at the New York Giants, but Zorn's players are intent on not buying into the Redskins being the next big thing, especially not with Sunday's opponent, the talented Eagles in Philadelphia.

"That's always a challenge, no matter where they're ranked, us playing Philly," said running back Clinton Portis. "It's going to be a physical game."

Fullback Mike Sellers said Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Johnson will try to confuse the Redskins, as usual.

"They're going to try and throw you different looks, try to get you frustrated and see what you can and can't block," Sellers said. "But we're well versed in a lot of (Johnson's) looks, so I think we'll be OK."

Campbell has yet to turn the ball over, but he knows it's going to be a challenge to maintain that unblemished mark against the aggressive Eagles, who rank first against the run and third overall.

"It's a tremendous defense," Campbell said. "One thing that they do each week is bring pressure. With a defense like this you have to be patient, not get discouraged and keep doing what you do."

Despite having played at least one game without Pro Bowl back Brian Westbrook, tight end L.J. Smith, receivers Reggie Brown and Kevin Curtis and guard Shawn Andrews, the Eagles are sixth in offense, fifth in passing.

Redskins top tackler London Fletcher expects to see Westbrook, who had 345 yards of offense in the two games against Washington in 2007.

"We assume that he's going to play," Fletcher said. "He's been a nemesis of ours the last few years. He's probably the toughest guy we'll face all year because he can do so many things. He lines up at receiver and runs great routes. He runs the ball well. ... They have a big-play offense. They have three or four guys in their receiver corps, who can stretch you vertically. They have a big offensive line. And (quarterback Donovan) McNabb's playing great."

No wonder, the Redskins aren't full of themselves. Yet.

SERIES HISTORY: 151st meeting. Redskins lead series 77-66-6 (1-0 playoffs). The most famous game in the series was "The Body Bag Game" in 1990 when Buddy Ryan's Eagles defense knocked out Redskins quarterbacks Stan Humphries and Jeff Rutledge, forcing Joe Gibbs to play rookie running back Brian Mitchell under center. Washington got revenge in a playoff game in Philadelphia two months later, costing Ryan his job.
